Central Hub for Featherston

It was all go in central Featherston on Saturday morning with the official opening of the town’s new square.

Ratepayers rose early to attend the 7.30am event, with a handful of people even turning out in their pyjamas.

South Wairarapa Mayor Adrienne Staples led the ceremony, with both Paora Ammunson from Papawai Marae and Archdeacon May Croft blessing the site.

The development, which is between Fitzherbert St, SH 2, and Fox St, has been a long awaited centre for the township.

Its builder, Allan Parkinson of Martinborough, was at the opening, as was photographer CHRIS KILFORD, who captured the moment.
