Clubs get in the swing for spring

The Tuesday Vets played a South African Stableford round, seeing Allan Fayen on top marks with 40 points, Max Bayliss 40, Murray Smith 39, John Vallely 39, and Cary Clark 36 points.

The Wednesday 9-holers played a par round on the back half of the course. The top results were Maureen Coulson -1, David Tunnicliffe -2, Powell Lewis -4, Bill Armstrong -5, and Susanne Fuller -5. The Nearest to the Pin on hole 15 went to Susanne Fuller.

It was a busy day on the course on Friday as we hosted the Ladies Cotter Rosebowl competition. Congratulations to the top pairings Blatchford and McHattie [Masterton] on 38 points, Busby & Shaw [Martinborough] 36 points, Petersen & Taylor [Martinborough] 36 points, McLeod and Tipler [Martinborough] 35 points, and Gibbons and Sadler [Carterton] on 34 points. There was a great turnout for Elevenses. The top results were Malcolm Steele 29 points, David Candlish 26, Ron O’Neal 25, John Fricker 24, and Murray Smith on 24 points.

The Saturday 9-holers played a stableford round on the back nine of the course, Maureen Coulson got back-to-back wins with 19 points, Bernice Parker 19, Carissa Price 15, Jennifer Armstrong 15, and Bill Armstrong 14 points. The longest putt competition was won by Terry Price on hole 18. The 18-hole ladies played a stableford round, the results were Sharrie Gibbons 35 points, Donna Burns 35, Val Edwards 34, Jane Brooking 32, and Jenny Harris 28 points. The 18-hole men played a net haggle, the top results were Don Kinnell 69, Nic Craig 70, Trevor Clayton 72, Colin Larsen 73, and Craige Burt 73. Twos were struck by Bill McLinden, Lance Sayer, Don Kinnell, Mark Johnston, and Gillies Baker. The Keenan Forestry Best Gross was won by Greg Hilston on 82.

The weather was good which produced good stableford points on Saturday . With there being two divisions 0-11 first was Richard Gaston 37 points second

Damion Kauika 36 points third Issac Walker 35 points on countback to Joe Thompson.12 + first Malcolm Benseman 43 points, second John Dodd 40 points, third Mike King 38 points, fourth Chic Reiri. Sunday was a par round 0-12 first Shane Stewart second Ivan Karaitiana third Stu Northe.13+ first Jack McGlashan, second Terry Adamson, third Derick Bentlet.

Vets played a stableford round Mens 1st Chic Reiri 41 points, 2nd Allan Biel 39 points, 3rd Ken Downing 37 points, on countback to Dennis Hutchby. Ladies 1st Nan McNae 35 points, 2nd Maria Lauvi 33 points, 3rd Michelle Coley 32 points.

This weekend sees the start of the club champs.

Tuesday, September 5: Forsyth Barr Tuesday Competition

Norah Lambourn Trophy 4BBB Nett – 20 ladies were in the field today. Sereana Phillipps and Shona McHattie complimented each other with style throughout the round and took the trophy with a nett 60. Four pairs were net 65 with Lola Ogg and Brenda Blatchford coming second on countback. Nearest the pin on 8 – Nooroa Rota. Bronze nearest the pin for 5 on 18 Jo Bird.

Monday, August 21: Monday Vets – Final Spring Trophy – Stableford

Spring Trophy rounds are played on the first Mondays in May, August and September. The competition is the best two Stableford rounds from the three rounds played. Going into the final round [Monday, 4 September], two were tied for first place at 33. In today’s round, Bob MacFarlane had 23 Stableford points to go with his previous best of 15, for a total of 38. Bob won by two Stablefords over Benny Marriott with 36. Full results are: Bob MacFarlane 23; Murray Schofield 20; Isobelle Weaver 19; Jamie Brunton 19; Phillip Brown 19.

Saturday 2 September: BW O’Brien Ltd Saturday Club Day – Combined Stableford + Margaret Wallace Trophy

Geoff Masters and Simon Buckley 74, Larry Ashmore & Mike Falloon 72, Rob Blackett and Paul Fouhy 71, Ray Verhaart and Brenda Blatchford 70, Tony Rowntree and Jane Williams 69. Winners of the Margaret Wallace Trophy were Ray Verhaart and Brenda Blatchford.

Thursday, August 31: Brad Chittick Ray White Leaders Thursday Competition – Stableford

Wednesday, August 30: 9-Hole Ladies – Stableford and Putting. Stableford
