Club competitions order of the day

Carterton

Our 9-holers played a stableford round on Saturday morning.

Megan Gibson, David Ross, Bill Armstrong, and Michael Cole all came in with 20 stableford points. Brooke Gibson made the longest putt on hole 5, and Bill Armstrong got a two on hole 6.

Saturday afternoon saw a reasonable number of 18-holers tee off at noon. It was the club’s Murray Halberg Day. Once a year, the club hosts the Eagles and raises money for this worthy cause.

Thank you to all club members who came along and played and also contributed goodies for the fundraising auction held after the play. There was fierce bidding for many of the items. A total of $1759 was raised.

The men’s club competition was stableford, and the winner on the day with 39 stablefords was Anthony Jefferson on a countback from Graham Hutchby. Followed by Craige Burt with 38 points.

The ladies also played a stableford round and Vicki Molenaar from Riverside Beach won on a countback from Pam Lewthwaite, both with 39 stableford points. Jan Williams from Masterton came in next with 32 points.

There were only 3 people managing to pot twos. Lance Sayer on holes 6 and 15, Gillies Baker on hole 6 and our vice-captain, Bill McLinden on hole 15.

Keenan Forestry best Gross went to Bill McLinden with a gross score of 73. All Teed up NTP’s went to Val Edwards and James O’Connor. Clareville Nursery NTP went to Jane Brooking. Bevan Lambess won Ev’s Bar NTP. Benmar NTP was not struck.

On Saturday our 9-holers teed off at 10am with a fun day of golf playing the front 9. Thanks to Terry Price and his sidekick, Jennifer Armstrong, for running the 9-hole competitions every week.

The 18-hole ladies will play the first round of the Captain’s Trophy this week. It is played over 5 rounds with the best 3 to count. The men will play the first round of the Tararua Cup. Best 2 of 3 June rounds to count.

Riversdale

Results from Saturday’s Par Competition – a field of 27 played in glorious conditions with some good scoring and lots of matches being decided. 1st John Barbour + 7, 2nd Davey Moore +6, 3rd Nic Thomas +5, 4th Gary Herrick +4, 5th Wayne Kemp +3, 6th Christine Prattley =2 on countback. Nearest the Pin women – Karen Barbour, men – Richard Warren.

The birdie pot was struck with 3 players scoring a birdie on number 7 Cindy Giles, Mathew Meats and Davey Moore sharing the bootie.

As our kitchen is out of service due to the current renovations, we are hosting food trucks for our Friday night dinners at the club. Check our facebook page for details.

Saturday 8 June: ‘BW O’Brien Ltd’ Saturday Club Day – Net. Blue tees – 1st Benny Marriott 68, 2nd Sam Forrester 69, 3rd Allan Carroll 71, 4th Brian Leighton 71. White tees – 1st Jeff Ogg 68, 2nd Murray Schofield 69, 3rd Ash Peterson 71.

Thursday 6 June: ‘Brad Chittick Ray White Leaders’ Thursday Competition – Stableford. 1st Peter Mason 40, 2nd Tim Tatham 39, 3rd Gavin Harris 38, 4th Allan Carroll 38, 5th Carl Christensen 38, 6th Peter Cottier 38.

Wednesday 5 June: 9-Hole Ladies – Stableford. 1st Barbie Wallace 23, 2nd Susie Williams 22, 3rd Di Herbert 21. PGG Wrightson’s longest drive Trish Newcombe. All Teed Up nearest the pin Kate Bunny. Vets – Par. 1st Benny Marriott 2, 2nd Jill Slight 1, 3rd Kevin Burdan 1.

Mahunga

The club competition on Saturday was par, and in group 1, Damion Kauika was first on 3 up, and that was on countback from Stu Northe, and that was on countback from Chris Wenden also on 3 up. John Dodd was fourth on 2 up. In group 2 Terry Adamson was first with 3 up with, Sila Woods second on 1 up, Mike Towgood third on 2 down and Brian Chapple fourth on 4 down. Holes in two were scored by Kevin Jury, Ivan Karaitiana, Jason Walker, Damion Kauika and Chris Wenden. Nearest the pins went to Chris Wenden, Jason Walker, Stu Northe, and Damion Kauika.

Sunday was also a par round and in group 1 Paul Haxton was first with 4 up, with Ivan Karaitiana second on countback with 2 up and that was from John Dodd also 2 up. Terry Fleet was fourth with 1 up. In group 2 James Jackson was first with 2 up with Layton Lawana second on 1 up, Jack McGlashan third on all square and Graham Duckett fourth on 1 down. Holes in two were scored by Ivan Karaitiana, Stu Northe, John Dodd, Layton Kawana and Byron Karaitiana.

This Saturday, the club competition is medal, with matches in the Walker fourball also being played, and on Sunday, the club competition is also medal. Good golfing.
