Default frustration

There’s frustration for the Giants softball club with two of their three adult teams winning by default in the first round back after the Christmas break.

The club was scheduled to host the Tōtara Park men’s premier two and premier three teams and the women’s premier three sides in the Hutt Valley competitions at South Park, but the premier three Giants Red men, and the women won’t step on to the diamond with their opponents pulling the pin on their fixtures.

That leaves only Giants Blue to take the field against a strong Tōtara Park team featuring Canadian pitcher Nicholas Neid, who threw Hutt Valley to victory in the national under-19 tournament.

The Hutt Valley premier two championship features seven teams, while five will line up in the premier threes. Both competitions will comprise a full round robin and semifinals and final.

The Giants women are third in their premier three championship and on target to make their top four playoffs.

Play in the Blues clash with Tōtara Park will get underway at 1 pm tomorrow at South Park.
