Carterton’s election results from last year show campaign spending did little to win over voters.
Of the five biggest spenders, only top spender Ron Mark secured a spot on the council.
Mark spent $11769.87 on his campaign, twice that of fellow mayoral contender Greg Lang [$5132.06] who was the third biggest spender.
Also in the top five spenders were unsuccessful council candidates Roger Boulter [$5667.64], Jill Greathead [$4270.19], and Michael O’Donnell.
Council newcomer Grace Ayling appeared to have run a successful low-budget campaign, securing a spot on council with a total spend of $0.
Of the successful council candidates, Steve Gallon was the biggest spender [$2653.80], followed by Brian Deller [$1155.61], and Lou Newman [$1019.41].
All other successful council candidates had a campaign budget of less than $1000.
