Food drive hits the streets

Hundreds of volunteers gathered at Masterton fire station last night for the annual food drive for foodbanks. Masterton South Rotary Club founded the event more than 20 years ago in Masterton, and now it is bigger than ever. This year saw food drives in Masterton, Carterton, Greytown, Featherston, and Martinborough. Local schools, clubs, community groups, and volunteers drove street by street, accompanied by emergency service vehicles with sirens on, collecting food donations from people’s front gates. Masterton Foodbank manager Jenna Matchett said it was the biggest event on the calendar. PHOTO/FLYNN NICHOLLS
