Reporter REBECCA KING hit the streets of Masterton to find out what people think of the election campaign so far and whether they’ve decided who they’ll vote for.

Cherryl Norman
“I think it’s a squabbly match – a bit like a group of children. They do more sniping than actually explaining their policies and things like that, which is a bit of a shame because that is what we want to hear. I’m leaning towards one side more than the other.”

Tara Dean
“It’s like every other election I suppose – it’s all the same to me. But I know who I’m going to vote for.”

Mark Rogers
“Short on facts from the National Party, and definitely from New Zealand First. It seems to be desperate fiction from those guys. Labour has done a very good job under some extremely difficult circumstances, but as far as certainly Chris Luxon’s concerned, it’s just bumper sticker politics. As I said, it’s just desperation, and hopefully the New Zealand public won’t fall for it. Yes, I’ve decided who I’m going to vote for.”

Geoffrey Clark
“It’s a bit boring at the moment, but I know who I’m voting for. It’s Mike Butterick and my party vote will go to National.”

Shaz Martin
“Not too bad – I’m not taking too much notice of it, though. If my party gets in, my party gets in – if it doesn’t, it doesn’t. I’ve decided who I’m going to vote for.”

Brent Goodwin
“Mind-numbing. I have decided which side I’m voting on.”

Sarah Forester
“I think it’s actually horrendous what’s happening with the kind of dog whistle politics that is happening. I think they all need to grow up and be a little bit more focused on things that actually matter to the country as a whole. I’m voting Greens.”

Chris Horrocks
“I think the campaign this time round – having been involved in politics since I came here in 1973 – is absolutely disgraceful. There is so much dysfunctionality in our society, and the biggest problem that I’ve got is that there is a great divide in the whole country.
