Entries open for apprentice contest
NZ Certified Builders [NZCB] has opened entries for its annual Apprentice Challenge. All building apprentices can enter, and those who are employed by an NZCB builder can enter at no cost. Entries must be received by Friday, March 25. The competition is considered “a great opportunity for apprentices to demonstrate their skills, and there are also great prizes up for grabs”. A regional heat is taking place in Masterton on April 6, and the winners from this will go on to compete in the national final in Wellington in June. Carterton library opening later
The Carterton Library will be opening later than usual on Monday, February 12, at 10.30am, due to a council staff meeting. All other branches of the Wairarapa Library Service will be opening at the usual time of 9.30am. Normal hours will resume the following day.
Library and Courthouse
The South Wairarapa District Council [SWDC] has announced that the Old Library in Greytown and the Old Courthouse in Featherston are available for lease. The Old Library is situated in Stella Bull Park on Main St and is classified as a historic building, as is the Old Courthouse on Clifford Square. Applications close on February 29 at 4pm.
Langdale roadworks
Masterton District Council [MDC] has advised that the roadworks on Langdale Rd will run to February 11. The roadworks, which started on February 7, will be taking place between 7am and 7pm. Vehicle access will be restricted while the roadworks are happening. MDC has advised there will be manned road closures on the Masterton-Castlepoint Rd end and the Whareama end of Langdale Rd, as well as the intersection on Post Office Rd. Anybody needing residential access or with any other queries can approach the traffic management staff onsite. Access will be made available in all emergencies.
