Uncertainty over when the Intercity Softball Premier Three championship semifinal involving the Giants will be played is causing frustration at the Masterton club.

The Giants secured a home semifinal by finishing second in round-robin play and their opponents will be Totara Park Blue.

The semifinals were originally set for March 7, but Giants have been granted dispensation so that most of their players could make the national evergreens’ tournament in Nelson at the end of next week.

Giants president and team member Chris Feary said getting answers from Intercity Softball was proving difficult.

“I honestly don’t know when it will be played. Totara Park can’t play on Saturday [today], because they have players who had made plans to be away.

“We may have to play it at Whakatiki Street [Upper Hutt] on Sunday, but we don’t know if they’ll have their players available,” he said.

“If not this weekend, we will have to play midweek in the week before the final, and we can’t get any answers out of Intercity or Totara Park.

“It’s not on, we won the right to have a home semifinal and that may not happen.”

The two previous scheduled clashes between the teams have not gone ahead, with the first game washed out and the second one defaulted by Totara Park Blue.

Giants would go into the match full of confidence having thrashed Hutt Valley Dodgers 12-0 and fellow semifinalists Tawa 19-0 in their last two outings.

Totara Park Blue finished the round robin with a 7-0 win over Totara Park White, however the best indication of their standing could be heavy losses to top qualifiers Paremata-Plimmerton [9-0], and Tawa [10-3].

Manwhile, the Giants women have their best chance for a win in the bottom six competition of the Hutt Valley Major B league when they play Hutt City United Little Leaguers, who have had one win, at South Park at 3.15pm today.
