Locals shine in junior tournament

Wairarapa juniors were in top form in the home junior open tournament played in Masterton over the weekend, winning five titles and finishing runners-up in three.

Sarah Kirkup won the Under-10 girls, beating another local, Lena Teofilo, in the final. Teofiol then combined with Hetty Shaw to win the doubles.

Olivia Orsborn won the Under-12 doubles with visiting player Sahana Sambhus, and was runner-up in the singles.

William Orsborn claimed the Under-14 boys singles and stepped up to the Under-16 boys doubles, combining with visitor Louie Farrier and finishing second.

Enzo Fuller and another visiting player Blake Cathcart won the Under-14 boys’ doubles.

One hundred and sixteen juniors from the lower North Island competed in the two-day tournament played at Trust House Masterton Tennis Centre and St Matthew’s Collegiate.
