Giants slipped to their second straight loss in the Intercity Premier Reserve competition with a 1-5 defeat to Tawa at South Park on Saturday.
Giants were expecting a strong showing from the visitors, who were promoted to the Premier Reserve grade after going unbeaten in the first round of Premier Two.
Tawa were dominant from the start, with some consistent pitching tying down the home side’s batters.
Their batters slowly got on top too and three runs in the fourth inning gave them a lead they never relinquished.
Giants did pull a run back, but it was too little too late.
After going through the first round with only the one loss, Giants have lost to Island Bay and Tawa, and will be in must-win territory when the Intercity competition resumes in early January.
The Giants’ Premier Reserve team picked up another win without taking to the diamond, after Totara Park Blue defaulted their fixture on Saturday. Giants lead the championship going into the Christmas break.
The Major B Women will be the only Giants’ team in action next weekend when they play Stokes Valley at Fraser Park.
