Promising players William and Lucy Orsborn are proving a smash on the Wairarapa and Central Region scene.

The talented brother and sister achieved rare success for Wairarapa juniors by being selected for the Central region team for the National Teams Event starting today in Christchurch.

The Central region includes Taranaki, Manawatu-Whanganui, Wairarapa and Wellington, and the teams feature only four boys and four girls in each age group, making their selection even more exceptional.

William, who earlier this year became the first Wairarapa junior to win a Central region singles title since Marcus Daniell in the early 2000s, and was crowned Wairarapa Junior Sports Personality of the Year, will play in the boys under-14 team, while Lucy will play in the girls under-12 side.

The pair will play singles and doubles against players ranked in the top four in the five other regions – Northern, Auckland, Waikato Bays, Canterbury, and Southland.

The team with the most points over the four days of round-robin play will be crowned winners.

Play gets under way today at the Wilding Park Tennis Centre with the first round of singles.
