Stefan Hook’s fine season with the bat continued in Burger King Red Star’s win over Whanganui Collegiate on Saturday.

Coming in at number three, Hook scored a crucial 84 on the Hadlow School artificial after the Coastal Challenge game had been transferred from Greytown because of water on the pitch.

Hook was a mixture of patience and aggression, facing 92 balls and hitting 11 fours. He added 108 for the fourth wicket with Tim Burling [43].

Wicketkeeper Nathan Elliott chimed in with an aggressive 45 [25 balls, six fours, and one six] as Red Star amassed 280-8 off 48 overs.

Joel Clark and Adam Lennox started brightly for Collegiate putting on an opening stand of 71. But once Lennox was bowled for 24 by Ethan Childs the students lost regular wickets and were all out for 147.

The Childs twins did most of the damage with Quinn claiming five wickets for 31 runs with his left arm spin and Ethan’s medium-fast bowling netting him 3-31.

Lennox was the best of the Collegiate batsmen with a well compiled 70.

The bonus-point victory keeps Red Star on target for the semifinals, in fifth place, three points outside the top four.

Meanwhile, Jackson Street Bar Lansdowne’s batting woes continued in a seven-wicket loss to Whanganui Tech Old Boys at Queen Elizabeth Park Oval.

Captain Jack Forrester and Nathan Chaney made a reasonable start, before Chaney was bowled with the score at 24.

The Lansdowne top and middle order batting crumbled losing six wickets for 27 runs.

Only a hard-fought half century by John Ryan saved face for Lansdowne. Ryan’s 51 came off 54 balls and included four fours and one six.

A 66-run second wicket partnership between Kashish Nauhria [15] and Bevan Hunter [40] was the backbone of Tech Old Boys’ innings.

Although they lost regular wickets, the Lansdowne total was never enough and Tech Old Boys cruised to victory with more than 12 overs to spare.

The loss keeps Lansdowne rooted to the bottom of the table without a win.
