Korus no match for Taranaki

The Southey Sayer Wairarapa Korus stumbled to a disappointing eight-wicket loss to Taranaki in a Shrimpton Trophy match at Queen Elizabeth Park Oval yesterday.

The Korus were without three key players – captain Ocean Bartlett, Georgia Atkinson and Emma McLeod – and their absence was felt as the batters failed to build any significant partnerships after being sent into bat.

Most of the batters struggled to get to grips with the Taranaki bowling, and they were dismissed for a below-par score of 116 off just 31 overs. Number seven Olivia Clark top-scored with 25, while Vanessa Taylor with 17 and Melissa Hansen with 15 were the best of the rest.

The target proved no problem for the visitors, and it was former St Matthew’s Collegiate student Jessie Holland who led the way, finishing on 44 not out, while Sarah Parker scored 35 as the visitors wrapped up the victory within 26 overs.

BRIEF SCORES
Wairarapa Korus 116 [Olivia Clark 25, Lucy Mitchell 3-25, Sarah Parker 2-18, Anika Scott 2-10] lost to Taranaki 117-2 [Jessie Holland 44no, Parker 35] by eight wickets.
