Bored with watching the Belarus Premier League and need some decent football action?

Capital Football have the answer for football fans missing their fix of the beautiful game and are out to find the best football gamer in the region.

Tournament director Liam Hyslop said on Wednesday the competition would be a way of keeping footballers engaged through the covid-19 lockdown.

“As we can’t get out on the field physically, we’ll be running a FIFA 20 video game knockout tournament to help get your football fix virtually throughout the coming weeks.”

The tournament is limited to players registered with a Capital Football club, or a club that plays in a Capital Football competition, or who have been registered with a club in the past 12 months.

Each player will represent their club, with entries from each club unlimited.

There will be separate PS4 and Xbox One tournaments and competitors must choose one upon registration.

“We haven’t had much interest from Wairarapa footballers yet.

“At the moment we have 18 PS4 entries and seven Xbox entries,” Hyslop said

“We’re hoping to get 64 entries for the PS4 and at least 32 entries for the Xbox tournament. Depending on entries we may have to play some preliminary rounds.”

The tournaments will be played in a knockout format on Wednesdays and Saturday and will take about three weeks to complete.

The ‘online friendlies’ mode of FIFA 20 will be used.

If a match ends in a draw it will be replayed at once. The tie then goes to golden goal in the third match.

Registrations are to be made via MyComet, are free for all players, and close today, with the first games to be played on Wednesday.

Entry details and full tournament regulations are on the Capital Football website www.capitalfootball.org.nz
