Harcourts confirmed their favouritism for another Netball Wairarapa Premier One championship with a hard-fought 51-43 win over Wairarapa College at the Trust House Netball Centre on Saturday.

The game was the first between the two since last season’s final, won by Harcourts 41-37, and both teams went into the game with unbeaten records.

With one round to play, the win guarantees the defending champions the number one seeding for the semifinals, while Waicol look certain for second place.

Carterton Red are third after winning the Carterton club derby over Legends 56-21.

Greytown Holmes Construction continued their push for the top four with a 42-22 defeat of St Matthew’s.

The win lifted Greytown to fourth, only two points ahead of Celtic, whose game against Gladstone Heat was deferred and is likely to be played tonight.

A Celtic win would lift them above Greytown, and with those two teams still to play their fixture from August 8, which was called off by the umpires.

The fourth place remains in doubt and could come to the last round of games on Saturday. Greytown will play Waicol, and Celtic face a daunting challenge against Harcourts.

STANDINGS

Harcourts 24 points; Wairarapa College 20; Carterton Red 16; Greytown Holmes Construction 12; Celtic 10; Carterton Legends 4, St Matthew’s 4; Gladstone Heat 0.
