A Wairarapa quintet will be looking to help the Central Districts Under-21 women’s team defend their National Championships title later this week in Auckland.

Georgia Atkinson, Ocean Bartlett, Monique Rees and sisters Kate and Gemma Sims have all been included in the team.

There will also be a Wairarapa connection in the coaching staff, with former St Matthew’s Collegiate student and current Central Hinds captain Anlo van Deventer named as assistant coach and manager.

Atkinson, Rees and the Sims sisters were all involved with the team that won the National Championships last year, while for leg spinner Bartlett, a Year 10 student at St Matthew’s Collegiate, it is a continuation of the remarkable progress she has made this season.

Throughout last year’s week-long tournament CD beat Canterbury, Otago and Wellington in the one-day matches, and Canterbury, Northern Districts and Wellington in the twenty20s.

Their only loss came to Auckland in their final one-day match.

This week they will play four one-day matches to begin the tournament, against ND [December 15], Auckland [December 16], Wellington [December 17] and Canterbury [December 19].

They will then play three T20 matches, against Otago [December 20], ND [December 20] and Wellington [December 21].
