Male arrested in hospital

A 28-year-old man was arrested at Wairarapa Hospital on Saturday for disorderly behaviour.

“It appeared he became abusive then got asked to leave,” police area prevention manager Gill Flower told the Times-Age.

“The staff had to restrain him, and then we had to arrest him. We got the call at 2.55pm and we had arrested him by 3pm.

“The man was visiting a patient; as far as I am aware there were no injuries.”

“Health New Zealand [HNZ] Wairarapa confirmed that an incident occurred at Wairarapa Hospital, near the ED, in which a member of the public behaved in a disorderly manner,” HNZ group director of operations Kieran McCann said.

“Our security staff intervened to de-escalate the situation, and there was no risk to patients or staff. Police subsequently removed the individual from the premises,” he said.

“We continue to review our security measures and procedures to understand what works and can be improved.”

The incident follows a machete attack at the ED on March 30 that left the victim with a severe laceration to his head and a fractured skull that required emergency surgery.

The attack was described at the time as an “isolated incident”.

  1. We don’t live in a perfect world that’s just a dream for some reality is different. Creating more rules isn’t the answer just in force the one’s you have by feet on the ground. Just a thought you do have security in your rules in a practical way like feet on the ground not just TALK.
