One person has died after a serious crash on Route 52 in Alfredton, east of Eketāhuna yesterday.
A police spokesperson confirmed that the person “passed away at the scene”.
Police initially responded to reports of a serious crash shortly before 10am yesterday, and confirmed that a motorbike was involved.
There was a large-scale road closure in place after the crash, with Route 52 closed from between Pori Rd and Pa Valley Rd.
The Serious Crash Unit [SCU] were called in to investigate the incident and diversions were put in place; motorists were warned to expect delays.
Fire and Emergency [Fenz] also responded to the incident, with trucks from Eketāhuna and Tīraumea attending.
A Hato Hone St John spokesperson confirmed that one road ambulance and one local first response unit were dispatched to the scene.
SCU completed their scene examination at about 4.30pm, and the road was re-opened to motorists, but an investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
