Versatile Krivan

By Gary Caffell

Curtis Krivan showcased his versatility as the  Apache Jacks Giants under-17s beat Demons 19-15 in their Hutt Valley competition softball match at Fraser Park on Wednesday night.

Krivan usually plays at catcher but with the Giants team being somewhat depleted by school exams he was tried at pitcher on this occasion and came through with flying colours.

This was a game which saw the big hitters from both teams come to the fore but with Krivan leading the way Giants managed to restrict Demons enough in that department to take the honours.

Tomorrow will see three Giants team playing at their home base of South Park in Masterton, the first of which will be the under-15s who will start their Hutt Valley fixture with Marist at 10.30am.

Marist are a useful side who have had two wins and one loss this season while Giants have played just the one game for one win.

The Kuripuni Sports Bar Giants Hutt Valley President’s grade men’s team will meet Totara Park at 3.15pm and while Totara Park have won two from three the unbeaten Giants line-up will be expected to put them away by a comfortable margin.

Also at 3.15pm the Giants women’s team will confront Dodgers in a Hutt Valley major B match and they will be keen to bounce back quickly from their rather unlucky 7-6 loss to Totara Park last weekend, their first defeat of the season.

Dodgers sit mid-table and are a handy enough side but a fired up Giants should be too strong for them.

It will be the battle of the unbeatens when Giants under-13s come up against Wainuiomata at Fraser Park tomorrow morning and a close, exciting game is in prospect.

Giants have a number of relatively new players to the sport in their squad and this will clearly be their toughest assignment to date.

The Giants Inter City premier two men’s side travel to Hataitai Park to take on Poneke-Kilbirnie Red, a powerful unit who have won all five of their games this season.

They are sure to place pressure on Giants from the word go but providing the latter are at full strength the possibility of an upset win can’t be discounted.
