New Zealand’s leading teenage job site is coming to Masterton with the aim of reducing youth unemployment.

Last June, 15-year-old Josh Callander of Tauranga came up with an idea for a website helping teens with employment opportunities for a school project.

Launched in December last year, his creation, Teen Jobs, became New Zealand’s leading teenage job site with more than 3600 teenagers signed up.

Now the site is expanding to Masterton, giving youth and employers more opportunities to connect.

Callander said his goal was to decrease teen unemployment and he had seen the difference the site had made in other areas.

“Hopefully, we can make a difference in Masterton.”

The site is free for employers and teens to use.

Young people make a profile which acts as a curriculum vitae, and employers can then search through the profiles, filtered by place, date, and type of work, and make contact with the appropriate teen for the job.

Callander said the site came from him finding it hard to find a job as a teen.

He said having a job at a young age taught many skills including communication, work ethic, and responsibility.

With the site now live and summer holidays approaching, he thought it would be a great time for opportunities for young people in the region.

“I think it would greatly benefit local teenagers looking for a job as well as employers,” he said.
