An eight-week-old puppy was found dead with a stab wound in Masterton, and the SPCA want to track down those responsible.
The dead black and white mixed breed puppy was found by a passerby on November 1.
It was lying against a fence in a field at the end of Oban Pl, which backs on to Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Wairarapa school grounds.
The finder brought him to SPCA’s Masterton centre.
An autopsy revealed he had been stabbed in the chest.
Other injuries were also discovered.
SPCA suspected it was deliberate but could not give a conclusive answer on how the puppy died.
In an appeal for information SPCA said inspectors had reasonable cause to suspect an offence under the Animal Welfare Act 1999 may have been committed.
They believed the puppy was dumped at the location after he was injured or got there by himself before he was injured.
SPCA inspectorate team lead Ben Lakomy said they’d already received a couple of anonymous pieces of information which had cast suspicion on a person in the area.
“But we don’t have anything concrete and we need people to help us build more of a picture of what happened.”
Lakomy encouraged anyone to report what they knew no matter how small or vague.
“It would appear this puppy has gone through something very traumatic.”
SPCA inspectors asked that anyone who witnessed this event, had information about the incident, or knew the owner or person/s responsible to please call the SPCA immediately on 04 389 8044 or 0800 467 732

Damn cruel and disgusting of the person responsible for the stabbing of that poor puppy in Masterton. I just hope the person/s get found and punished, by way of imprisonment or made thru the courts to work in an animal shelter picking up shit.
