Around 30 people turned up on Wednesday to view concept designs for a revamp of Masterton’s skatepark and pick the design features they liked.

Keen skater Tadhg Coulthard-Miller reckoned the place really needed to be covered.

“When it rains, that’s it, we have to go across the road but of course this is where we do our stuff.

“It would be amazing to have cover,” he said.

“There is unused space and space taken up with unhelpful concrete ridges – they need to go.”

His mate, Ben King, said there was a lot of potential to improve what was already in place.

Other suggestions for improvement included decent water features, new rubbish bins, and better lighting.

Skatepark designers RICH Landscapes organised the community consultation with the Masterton District Council and community lead, Sam Hall.

Those who turned up were asked to rate the various designs by marking them out with stickers.

Council will assess the proposal in December.
