A man has been charged in relation to a jewellery store robbery in Masterton.
Police arrested an 18-year-old Auckland man on Sunday in relation to the aggravated burglary of Michael Hill on Queen St on October 6.
Police said the man had also been arrested in relation to the burglaries of two jewellery stores in Palmerston North last week.
“Our colleagues in Masterton were able to locate and apprehend this offender quickly,” Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thompson said.
“Members of the public have come forward with information to assist our enquiries. Many had noticed suspicious behaviour earlier in the day and had recorded valuable information, such as registration numbers.
The man appeared in Masterton District Court and was remanded in custody. He reappeared yesterday.
Police said they were following lines of enquiry to identify a second male involved in the Palmerston North burglaries.
On October 6 a man walked into Michael Hill at 4.45pm wielding a hammer. He smashed display cabinets and made off with an unknown quantity of jewellery.
The man then got into his car and drove along the pavement to flee the scene.
