Some of the smallest kids in Masterton are in for an early Christmas treat, with much anticipated new playground equipment starting to arrive in the Kids Own Playground.

A large swing and a ‘mouse house’ will be installed in the Masterton playground over the next week.

The mouse house is a tunnel-like structure that will spin under the momentum of keen runners, just like a wheel for pet mice.

A third disc-like apparatus, which is wheelchair accessible, will be added in January.

The new equipment had been funded by the Masterton District Council and the Friends of the Park in a bid to revamp the ‘smallie’s’ section.

Council chair of infrastructural services committee Gary Caffell said he was pleased the new equipment was on its way.

“This project has been at least three years in the making and I am delighted that we now have finality for something which should prove a huge attraction, particularly for those in the younger (3-8years) bracket.

“I also want to stress that the two tractors which are so popular with the youngies will be remaining, as will the seats.”
