Eight hundred Christmas cards will be delivered to people in rest homes across the region this week as part of the nationwide Sending Love initiative.
Drop boxes were set up in four Wairarapa locations to support the initiative which has ordinary New Zealanders writing messages of love inside Christmas cards to those who may be feeling lonely during the festive season.
The drop box at the Times-Age building collected 180 cards.
St Patrick’s School was a major contributor to the Times-Age drop box, with its pupils making 113 cards which they hand-delivered. Other drop boxes included St Teresa’s School in Featherston, which collected 106 cards, Almo’s Books in Carterton [137], Masterton District Library [324].
Other cards have been sent to the area co-ordinator after the drop boxes were already emptied.
