Masterton-based financial management software company Farm Focus took home the Greater Wellington cyber gold award last week.

The company’s software has provided a big-picture view of farm performance and profitability for over 40 years.

The idea was to help farmers work smarter rather than harder, helping them make the right calls.

The Wellington Gold Awards celebrate the excellence and enterprise of businesses in the Greater Wellington region and are a way of paying tribute to community members.

Farm Focus was one of five Greater Wellington-Region finalists vying for the cyber gold award.

Sales and marketing manager Katrina McClelland said the team was thrilled to be recognised with the award.

“We’re a Wairarapa company passionate about farming and believe New Zealand farmers must have access to the best technology to help them stay at the top of best farming practices and plan for the future.”

She said it wouldn’t be possible to provide the same level of service and understanding to clients if they were based in a city.

“Being rural-based, we are not only in close touch with our farmers, but many of our team are also farmers or have experience in the agricultural sector,” McClelland said.

“A brilliant idea and successful business model can come from anywhere.”

Farm Focus has a dedicated product and development team in Masterton, building world-class cloud-based technology.

She said the company appreciated input from customers’ feedback and votes.

“Farm Focus really is developed by the farmer for the farmer.”

McClelland said it was a proud day for the company, but thought it wouldn’t come as a shock that a Wairarapa business had scooped up another top award.

“We are a region that punches well above its weight when it comes to technology, industry and innovation.”
