Armed police surrounded a house in Church St, Masterton mid-Saturday afternoon, looking for a person of interest.
How much interest, police would not say on Sunday, but several specialist units came from over the hill to assist local forces, peaking interest in the townships the cavalcade passed through.
Social media channels were buzzing as residents from all over Masterton posted pictures and videos of the assembled armed police, a number in full tactical gear, who had taken covering positions behind police cars, as the property was surrounded.
About 10 police vehicles – marked and unmarked – flooded into the street, and police made appeals via loudspeaker towards the house as residents watched.
After a period, Armed Offenders Squad members entered the house but the person in question was not found.
A police spokesperson said they were unable to provide any further details of the investigation as the inquiry was continuing.
The same day, several reports came in about disorder on Chapel St, Masterton, which involved two people known to one another. Police attended and spoke to the parties involved. No arrests were made.
An attempted burglary was also reported on Saturday, in Edwin Feist Pl, Masterton, where locks were found broken open on some containers. Nothing was reported stolen.
Fire and Emergency responded to a Saturday morning chimney fire on Daniel St in Martinborough.
Volunteer firefighter Jake Hawkins said it was only minor, and that a small amount of water was placed into the fire which allowed the steam to extinguish the blaze inside the flue.
There was also another minor fire in the porchway of a property on Kupe Dr in Carterton, which was attended to by the volunteer fire brigade. There were no reported injuries at either event.
