The Armed Offenders Squad [AOS] responded to a firearm offence reported at a rural property on Western Lake Rd in South Wairarapa on Thursday. At least three people were taken into police vehicles, at least one of those in handcuffs. Police also appeared to be searching the grass along the side of the road.
In addition to two AOS vehicles, armed police were present, as well as a police dog unit. Cordons were in place and members of the public were advised to avoid the area until the incident was resolved.
Police reopened the road to the public at about 2.30 pm but remained on the scene. They confirmed seveal people were detained and that inquiries were ongoing at the address.
