Drivers on Masterton’s Ngaumutawa Rd received mixed signals on Tuesday, as signage appeared to limit the speed to both 50kmh and 70kmh. Masterton District Council promptly fixed the issue, which a spokesperson noted was likely due to the speed signs being incorrectly re-erected by “heavy transport operators” on Monday night. “When heavy transport operators – house movers, wide loads etc – use the route, they are able to temporarily remove the speeds signs to facilitate movement,” the spokesperson said. “At times, these are replaced without checking the direction the signs are facing is correct. It generally happens at night when roads are quieter. In this case, three out of four signs were correct when repositioned.” PHOTO/EMILY IRELAND
