Grants up for consideration

South Wairarapa District Council’s grants committee will meet next week to consider community and youth grant funding applications.

In the council’s Long-Term Plan, $170,000 was allocated for the 2022/23 year for community grants, and $75,000 for youth grants.

The amount actually available for distribution is $53,245 for community grants and $95,762 for youth grants.

The council said this was due to ongoing multi-year partnership agreements with organisations, grants not being uplifted by organisations, and carry-over funding from the 2021-22 financial year.

In this funding round, $94,447.75 has been requested for community grants and $106,817.75 for youth grants, so not all requests will be fulfilled.

The biggest community funding requests this round come from the Featherston Community Centre Charitable Trust [$25,000 for kitchen renovation] and Youthline [$12,000 for Wairarapa Youthline].

The council grant subcommittee will meet on September 7. – NZLDR
