A Lansdowne home has been voted Registered Master Builders Supreme House of the Year for the Wellington/Wairarapa region.
Described by judges as a “successful modern structure that sympathises with the environment” news of the win was embargoed until late last night when the results were due to be revealed at a Gala Dinner at Te Papa, Wellington, meaning reporters were not able to talk to the home owners or the builder prior to this edition going to press.
In the embargoed media release Master’s Builders revealed Richard Sexton Builders Ltd won four regional awards with the Masterton home.
Apart from the supreme award the builders won a Gold Award and Category win for the Nulook New Home award, and the Craftsmanship Award.
The Lansdowne home was judged in the $650,000 to $1 million category.
Judges said the Masterton home showed a “clever interplay of space and light throughout.”
“The harmonious integration between the spaces generates a home built for comfortable living that has clearly met the clients brief.
“The home wraps around a courtyard that has a detailed timber screen providing privacy from the road.
“Large, private and sheltered entertaining space is accessed from most rooms in the home.”
The Supreme Renovation Award of the Year went to Planit Construction for a Karori renovation which also won the company a Gold Award and Category win for the Renovation Award over $500,000.
Judges said the winning Karori renovation was a very successful and the transition between old and new has been seamless.
The regional winners will now go forward to the national finals with Supreme Award winners for the entire country to be announced at a gala dinner at The Langham, Auckland, on November 26.
