Essential work on the stormwater system on State Highway 2 between Wakefield and Lyon streets in Featherston means this section of the road will be closed nightly from tomorrow [Sunday, April 14] and parking will be unavailable during the day.
The drainage work will be carried out throughout the week, with night works starting tomorrow night with a full closure of the section of SH2 from 9pm to 5.30am, and shoulder closures during the day.
NZTA Waka Kotahi lower North Island manager Mark Owen said the stormwater system upgrade will involve the removal of old pipes and installation of new ones.
“This requires significant excavations, and, unfortunately, it does affect highway traffic,” Owen said.
“We are timing the most disruptive works at night when traffic volumes are lower.”
Drivers and all road users are encouraged to follow all traffic management in place and note the temporary speed limits in place for safety.
