Car hits pole, power cut to 700 homes

A car colliding with a power pole caused a widespread power outage in Masterton on Tuesday. Emergency services responded to the single-vehicle crash on Montgomery Pl at 2.30pm. The force of the crash caused the power pole to snap in half and cut power to 708 households in one fell swoop. Police said no injuries were reported in the crash. Powerco said crews had reconnected 550 customers by 3pm, and the remaining 158 households had their power restored by about 6.30pm.
