Taking a trip down memory lane

Today and tomorrow look set to be a break from the wet and windy weather, while not being quite the sunny stunners we’ve had earlier this month. Although the wind might pick up a little with some drizzle, there are still plenty of events to get stuck into and keep the whānau entertained. There’s even a rugby great in the area this weekend, so if the game this morning didn’t quite go your way, maybe you can reminisce?

Citroën 60th Anniversary

Celebrating 60 years, Citroën has had a long history in Wairarapa and Masterton has been chosen to host the celebratory events. New and old Citroëns are on display today at the Solway Park Copthorne for the public to come and relive the car company’s long history.

Aratoi Rocks!

Tag along to Aratoi today for a gallery talk in response to Rebecca Steedman’s ceramic exhibition ‘Time Beds’ with geologist Chris Hollis. ‘Ngā Toka o Te Awa, The Rocks’ in the River will be telling visitors the story of the journey that various unique rocks have taken down the four main rivers that flow from the Tararua Ranges.

Gallery Talk is today from 11am–12pm at Aratoi. 12 Bruce St, Masterton.

Rebecca Steedman’s exhibition runs until September 17.

Richie’s Run for Conservation

Pūkaha National Wildlife Centre’s community open day is tomorrow, and rugby legend Richie McCaw will be facing off against three local teams – Tararua, Wairarapa, and Pūkaha. Gates will be opening at 10.30am and all money raised from the day will fund the conservation of manu [birds] and rākau [trees] at Pūkaha.

Pūkaha National Wildlife Centre, 85379 State Highway 2, Mount Bruce, Tomorrow, 10.30am–3:30pm [race starts at 11am].

Sound off on Sunday

In celebration of the upcoming 130th anniversary of women’s right to vote in Aotearoa New Zealand, head along tomorrow to the Waimarie Eatery & Bar for a day of sisters spinning sounds. You can even jump on the decks – just be sure to bring along your “immaculately clean records”. If you register upon arrival, you can even go into the draw to win some participation prizes!

    Waimarie Eatery & Bar, 57 Fox St, Featherston. Tomorrow, 3pm – 8pm.
