Strong winds, rains to return

Monday’s wet and windy weather may have blown away, but it’s likely to come back tomorrow. Metservice said the inclement start to the week was because of a fast-moving cold front sweeping over New Zealand, which Wairarapa and the wider Wellington region bore the brunt of. Although calmer conditions lingered during the middle of the week, this is expected to be short-lived, with unsettled weather returning tomorrow. A strong wind watch is in place for Wairarapa on Friday, and northwest winds may approach severe gales in exposed places. The watch is currently active from 1am tomorrow until 9am, but this may be extended. Meanwhile, rain is expected to set in tomorrow and not clear until Saturday. Inland North Island areas, including Wairarapa, have already seen overnight temperatures drop into the single digits this week. PHOTO/STOCK.ADOBE.COM
