Fell takes up chief executive role

Incoming Masterton District Council chief executive Kym Fell, pictured left, was welcomed to the job with a pōwhiri at Whakaoriori Marae yesterday. Members of Rangitāne and Ngāti Kahungunu welcomed Fell along with his whānau, previous co-workers, and friends. Rangitāne o Wairarapa kaumātua Mike Kawana began the speeches, and Masterton Mayor Gary Caffell welcomed the newcomer. Fell said he is “excited” to get started and that – in reference to recent talk of amalgamating the region’s council – he is unafraid of change. He and Caffell both commented on their desire to work closely with local iwi for the good of Masterton.
