Featherston strikes for climate justice

Featherston joined thousands of protestors around the country yesterday to demand climate justice. Environmental advocates armed with placards gathered at Featherston Town Square as part of the School Strike 4 Climate New Zealand movement. The protest was one of multiple rallies and events taking place nationally to acknowledge a global need to address the climate crisis. South Wairarapa Mayor Martin Connolly said there was so much supportive honking from cars passing by that he found it difficult at times to hear the speakers. “I don’t think we would have had that level of support six months ago.” Connolly said it is likely the impact of the recent cyclone has woken people up to the realities of the climate situation.
