Featherston gets an online upgrade

Featherston now has an upgraded and improved website that’s designed to function as an information hub about what’s happening and available in the area.

Launched on February 2, the site – Featherston Info – serves as a central directory of events, restaurants and bars, accommodation, activities, and other business-related information.

It is run by the Featherston Community Centre Charitable Trust [FCCCT] and is the home of the Featherston Biz Engine [FBE].

FBE liaises with businesses and groups that want to be on the directory, while FCCCT manages the hosting and admin of the website.

FCCCT manager Joanna Baldwin said the old site needed an upgrade.

“We found that everyone was trying to communicate on their own, and so this is a central communication point,” she said.

“Facebook can be very temperamental, and it is changing all the time. This is going to be an up-to-date voice for Featherston town.”

Businesses can pay to be members of FBE and have a profile with photos, contacts, and a link to their website or Facebook page. Even if they don’t wish to become members, they can still have a link posted.

Baldwin said the old Featherston website was created in 2017 by a local community advocate, Jennifer Grey, who ran it until March 2022, when FCCCT took it over and upgraded it.

Later, in July 2023, two locals got together and formed FBE after encouragement from Baldwin and a proposal that they could manage the businesses and organisations looking to go on the website.

A funding advocacy group, Fab Feathy, which no longer exists, made a website fundraiser its final project and secured money from the Department of Internal Affairs; the website also serves as an archive of the work the defunct group had done.

Businesses or organisations that want to be placed on the website should email [email protected].

The website itself can be found at featherstoninfo.nz.
