Police and Wellington Free Ambulance [WFA] responded to reports of a stabbing on Margret St in Masterton’s Solway early on Saturday morning.
“One person has been arrested after stabbing another person in the eye with a stick,” a police spokesperson said.
“The incident occurred after a noise complaint at a nearby park”, with police responding to the assault at 12.55am.
A WFA spokesperson confirmed ambulance crew “attended at 1am to a patient in a serious condition”.
“He was taken to Wairarapa Hospital and then transported by air to Wellington due to the nature of the eye injury needing specialist treatment.”
A 44-year-old man appeared in Masterton District Court yesterday charged with intent to injure with reckless disregard for the safety of others, which could result in a sentence of up to five years’ imprisonment.
The alleged offender is due to reappear on Thursday, May 30.
The police spokesperson strongly encouraged anyone who has an issue with noise to call the council [06 370 6300], or police if it relates to illegal behaviour, rather than try to resolve the issue themselves.
