Waste reduction fund open

Carterton District Council has opened applications for new grants from its Waste Minimisation Rapid and Contestable Funds. The funds provide practical support for waste reduction solutions and will support projects, initiatives, and events that have a focus on delivering waste minimisation activities in the district. Applications to the Rapid Fund will be considered monthly as they are received for the remainder of the 2023-2024 financial year, with up to $2000 available for projects. Applications must be submitted at least six weeks before a project’s start date, and an assessment of the application will be made within four weeks of its lodgement. The Annual Contestable Fund has a total pool of $60,000 and is for medium and larger projects. Applications to this fund are considered annually, and close on 29 February, with decisions to be made by the end of March.

Community workshop

This weekend there is an informal community session run by South Wairarapa District Council [SWDC] about the Featherston Masterplan. SWDC is currently consulting on the draft masterplan, which proposes a series of infrastructure improvements focusing on the town centre and its surroundings over the next three decades. When finalised, it will inform SWDC’s priorities in future planning processes and the District Plan provisions for Featherston in the Wairarapa Combined District Plan Review. The session will be running at Featherston Community Centre this Saturday between 10.30am and 12.30pm, and will include a free BBQ. More information about Featherston’s masterplan can be found on SWDC’s website.

Carterton’s
Colour Run

Carterton District Council [CDC], in collaboration with Rangatahi to Rangatira and the CDC Youth Council, is hosting a ‘colour run’ this weekend as part of its ‘Rangatahi Strategy’ to build connections. The Carterton Colour Run starts at 12pm in Carrington Park. There will be two races, one for kids and families and another more challenging race for the older kids. Participants are being encouraged to wear white for the colour run, and bring a gold coin donation to enter. There will also be food trucks and a free sausage sizzle.
