Backyard fire
Fire emergency crew from Masterton Brigade responded to a backyard fire late on Wednesday. Crew were called to the scene in Masterton at 9.14pm and a spokesperson said they assisted putting the fire out with the property owner. Only one appliance was needed. The spokesperson could not confirm how the fire started.
Dog registration
Masterton District Council is issuing a reminder that dog registrations are due at the end of June. Dog owners can set up automatic weekly payments towards the registration fee with council if that is preferred. Registration must be paid in full by the end of July to avoid any late payment penalties.
Clarification
A story printed on Wednesday referring to a solar farm being built by developer Lightyears Solar in Carterton said that the project was 12 hectares. The farm on which the development is being built is 12 hectares, but the solar farm itself will equate to 6 hectares.
Sawdust blaze
Crew from three local fire brigades attended a fire that sparked from a pile of sawdust in Waingawa, Masterton, yesterday. A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson said they received reports of the fire at 12.18pm at a commercial premises. The alert was quickly raised to level two, with Masterton, Carterton and Greytown brigades in attendance. In total, four appliances, two tankers and a support vehicle were required to assist with putting out the fire with foam, and it was contained by 1pm. At that point, crew were turning over the sawdust pile to ensure no burning sections remained. The spokesperson said that they were not aware of how the fire began.
Train delayed
