Water project completed

The Dalefield Rd pump station in Carterton has been completed and commissioned within budget, with a saving of about $40k. Last year, councillors unanimously agreed to double the Dalefield Rd Pump Station project budget to $1.2 million. At the time, it was noted that the pump station project would be funded with $836k from water reserves, and $364k from new waters borrowing. The pump station enables the use of new water storage tanks. Following the commissioning of the pump station, minor defects were identified with the water tanks, according to a recent Carterton District Council report. All of the defects were repaired by December 19, 2023. -NZLDR

Featherston masterplan

Consultation is now open for the draft Featherston Masterplan and Implementation Plan and closes on February 18. The masterplan proposes a series of infrastructure improvements over the next three decades. Feedback can be provided online through an online submission form at swdc.govt.nz. There will be an in-person engagement opportunity today at the Featherston vege market from 9am to 11am, and another opportunity on Tuesday, February 13, from 7pm to 8pm at a Walk and Talk event starting at the train station. As an incentive to attend, ice creams will be provided at the beginning of the walk.

Police callouts

Local police responded to several incidents on Thursday night and the early hours of Friday morning. Police were alerted to a fire at Paierau Rd at 7.40pm [see page 1 story for more details] and left the scene at 9pm after a road closure was no longer required. At 2.30am yesterday, police received a report of a “breach of the peace” on Park Ave in Masterton. Responding officers arrived at the scene and found “nothing of note”.
