Police were called to Wairarapa Hospital yesterday morning after an argument between a couple escalated, and one of them assaulted a staff member. Enquiries are ongoing, and charges are yet to be laid.

A police spokesperson confirmed that a motorcyclist was arrested in Masterton on Sunday after failing to stop for police when signalled to do so. The motorcyclist was signalled to pull over at about 3.45pm on Bunny St but carried on riding. Police were able to locate them a short while later, and the motorcyclist has now been forbidden to drive as a result of various licence offences.

Some Wairarapa residents reportedly had a shaky wake-up yesterday thanks to a moderate earthquake 15km west of Pongaroa. The wobble hit just before 8am yesterday, and GeoNet recorded it as relatively minor magnitude of 4.2 with a depth of only 8km. A total of 203 people spanning the North and South Islands recorded feeling the quake – 15 of them in Wairarapa – with 134 classing it as weak, 57 reports of light, 10 moderate, one strong, and one person going so far as to rate it as extreme. It was reported to be felt as far north as Pukekohe in south Auckland and as far south as Dunedin.

Masterton District Council’s [MDC] Christmas Parade and Christmas at the Park events are only a few weeks away, and the MDC is reminding people wishing to participate to register their floats before registration closes this Friday, November 17 at 4pm. To register or find out more, contact [email protected]. The parade will start at 12.30pm on Saturday, December 2, next to the Countdown supermarket on Queen St, making its way down Queen St, and eventually finishing in The Farriers Bar & Eatery car park. Then, just over the road at Queen Elizabeth Park, the Christmas at the Park celebrations are due to start at 2.30pm.
