Investigation into outages

Powerco has confirmed an investigation is underway after multiple reports of streetlight outages in Masterton and Carterton. The power company said there had been 14 streetlight outages since the beginning of this year in the two districts, and it is currently investigating a streetlight outage reported on May 31 affecting Lincoln Rd and Villa St in Masterton. On Friday, Powerco said field crews were aiming to investigate the fault that night, but, “Depending on the complexity of the underlying issue, the lights may not be restored until next week”. It said outages were caused by a number of things, including blown fuses, circuit faults, equipment reaching end-of-life or vehicle collisions. Powerco said streetlight outages should be reported to the local council for investigation. “Council streetlight contractors attended streetlight outages in the first instance, and in the event that the outage is due to an issue on the Powerco network, the council notifies Powerco.
