Knife vandal

Masterton police have arrested a 42-year-old man after he vandalised a nearby address with graffiti and was found in possession of a knife on Chapel St at 1.20pm yesterday. A spokesperson for police confirmed that no one was injured, and that the man was taken into custody on charges of possessing an offensive weapon and wilful damage-graffiti. The man is due to appear in Masterton District Court today.

Threatening
behaviour

Masterton police responded to reports of a man displaying threatening behaviour towards a person known to him at an address on Church St at around 1.15pm yesterday. A spokesperson for police said enquiries are ongoing.

Pothole callout

Police received reports of a pothole on SH2 in Carterton at 8.30pm on Sunday. A spokesperson for police said that contractors were sent out to fill the pothole, and the job was completed by 10pm. Having recently finished work on the roundabouts, Waka Kotahi contractors will return in the summer months to lay the final layer of asphalt on SH2 between Clareville and Waingawa.

Pahiatua water

A Tararua District Council [TDC] spokesperson said yesterday that Pahiatua’s treated water supply has seen an improvement in both treated water capacity and storage over the weekend, and the reservoir is back up to 44 per cent capacity. “Notwithstanding the positive progress and an observable reduction in the community’s water consumption, continued water conservation is still required as we head towards the goal of 50 per cent capacity in the reservoir,” the spokesperson said. As of yesterday, Pahiatua has just under three days of treated water at the current treated capacity and the town’s rate of consumption. Meanwhile, the total outdoor ban remains in place.

Temperatures have plunged across the region, with MetService forecasting chillier temperatures and rain until Thursday. There will be scattered showers, becoming heavier this afternoon and tomorrow. Today also brings wind, with gales in exposed places and south-westerlies easing tomorrow afternoon. Masterton will reach a high of 12 degrees Celsius today and 11 degrees Celsius tomorrow.
