Ruamahanga road talks

Carterton District Council [CDC] and South Wairarapa District Council [SWDC] spokespeople have confirmed the parties to the shared service roading agreement known as ‘Ruamahanga Roads’ – CDC, SWDC, and contractor Fulton Hogan – are in preliminary discussions about the renewal of the contract. The timeframe the parties are working to is understood to be June next year. The joint contract was agreed in 2019 for an initial period of five years, with additional years being performance-dependent, a statement at the time said.

Battery
recycling

Battery recycling is now available at Riversdale and Castlepoint transfer stations as Earthcare has taken over end-to-end management of the battery recycling trial for Masterton and Carterton District Councils. There is new signage at transfer stations, with Earthcare applying tape to battery terminals before they are shipped to Upcycle in Auckland for recycling. Masterton District Council assets and operations manager Mike Burger has welcomed the move. “This means customers on the coast, at Riversdale and Castlepoint, can make use of this service, which will streamline the system for getting batteries from transfer stations in Masterton and Carterton to Upcycle for processing,” he said.

Changing fares

Metlink fares have returned to full price for adults as of today after being half-price for over a year. Concessions are still available, but they need to be loaded onto a Snapper card on the concession section of the Snapper website. Under 13s with a green Snapper can ride for free, under 18s with a green Snapper can get 75 per cent off fares, and under 25s with a red Snapper can get 50 per cent off. Other concessions are available for people who hold Community Services cards, SuperGold cards, or Total Mobility cards.
