Coronation Hall

Masterton District Council [MDC] is now taking applications from businesses, organisations, and groups from within the community to lease Coronation Hall in Queen Elizabeth Park. The hall is subject to building warrant of fitness conditions, including fire systems and ventilation. It had previously been set up as a cafe and an art gallery. Gumboot Friday

Gumboot Friday’s annual fundraising drive is on November 3. Founded by mental health advocate Mike King, Gumboot Friday is a free counselling service for any young person in New Zealand aged 25 and under. More info can be found at gumbootfriday.org.nz.

Freedom
camping

South Wairarapa District Council will be running a drop-in session in Ngawi on Friday, November 3, for the public to speak with councillors and council staff about the proposed freedom camping bylaw. Public consultation is open until November 13. Some of the restrictions proposed include restricting camping to people in self-contained motor vehicles in some campsites and near towns, as well as time limits on stays.

Police reports

Wairarapa Police responded to a number of reports over the weekend. On Saturday these included a person drinking in their vehicle on Hastwell St in Greytown at 4pm [the individual was taken into custody to detox], young people causing an obstruction with traffic cones on SH2 near Clareville at 6.20pm [no further issues were reported], a person acting threateningly on East St in Greytown at 7.15pm, a two-vehicle collision on Hughes Line East at East Taratahi at 7.30pm [no injuries reported], and people fighting at a High St, Masterton property at 11.15pm [after police attended briefly, there were no further issues].

Cash for chips

A reminder that MDC is holding a microchipping event on Wednesday is from 5pm-6pm at Henley Lake near the Colombo Rd carpark. MDC advises this is a cash-only event and asks attendees to keep their pups on a leash and under active control.
