Webstar future
uncertain

The announcement on the future of Masterton’s largest print facility and its 40 employees, expected yesterday, has not materialised. Blue Star Group, who owns Webstar, announced last week that it was consulting on the print facility’s closure. Blue Star chief executive Jill Cowling said it would take some incredible feedback to prevent the closure. A decision on the plant’s future was expected yesterday. At the time of print, there was no update.

Can of scary

Staff at a Queen St store received a shock yesterday when a deodorant can exploded inside the store. Police said the can made a “loud bang” when it was thrown into the commercial premises. Officers responded to the call shortly after 10am and spoke to the store employees. Police said no injuries were reported and inquiries into the incident were ongoing.

Rental scam

Wellington District Police have warned the public about a rental scam on Facebook Marketplace. Scammers have been creating fake rental listings, requesting bond payment, removing the listing and deleting their accounts once the bond payment was received. Police said they received multiple reports of similar cams. Police said people should be vigilant when using social media to buy goods or services and advised scam victims to make a report to police on 105 or at their local station.
