Craft Market

Three days after being ripped open, Carterton Craft Market has re-opened, thanks to some crafty building work. A logging truck parked out front snagged the front of the building last week, leaving its verandah damaged. Carterton Craft Market manager Desley Rekke said two builders worked late into the evening to get everything structurally sound and signed off. Rekke said they now must wait for the insurance assessor to work on the veranda because it would have to be rebuilt and repaired.

Theft spree

Police are following up on a raft of stolen vehicle reports in Masterton over the past two days. The circumstances surrounding a vehicle that reportedly fled from officers on Monday, only to be found dumped at another location hours later, is being investigated. A spokesperson confirmed officers sighted the stolen vehicle at 10.30pm near Bannister Court, and are making inquiries. Another stolen vehicle was reportedly found on Bluff Rangitumau Rd yesterday morning, while a third vehicle was reported abandoned on Craigmillar St, Solway. Police said none of these incidents are related.

Club flood

A donation of $1610 by Masterton’s Red Star table tennis club and its members to the New Zealand Disaster Fund to help those impacted by Cyclone Gabrielle has been welcomed by the NZ Red Cross, the club’s past president Brian Cashmore said yesterday. NZRC community fundraising advisor Luke Ball welcomed the contribution, saying: “Thank you for your incredible donation, we truly value your support, and we would be unable to do the work that we do without you.” The club has about 40 members.

Clarification

The article ‘New funding sought after annual grant cancelled’ [Times-Age, May 8] stated Greytown Trust Lands Trust financial support for Greytown Sport and Leisure would end this year. While Greytown Sports and Leisure is seeking a new funding arrangement, it has clarified that it has received funding from the Trust until June, 2024.
